So, who are we and what do we do?
Meet the Breeder….
Hi, I’m Jodi — the person behind JDs Mini Foxies, and Mum to my beautiful daughter, Octavia.
We call the picturesque Peel Region of Western Australia home, living in the little rural town of Coolup where animals, open spaces and country life are very much part of our everyday.
Animals have been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up surrounded by horses, cattle and dogs — my Mum even found me asleep in the stables with the horses as a toddler! That connection has never left me. Animals have brought me some of my greatest memories and have also been a constant source of comfort through some of the hardest chapters of my life.
JDs Mini Foxies has been many years in the making. What began with a genuine love for the Mini Foxie has grown into something incredibly special for our family. Like anything worthwhile, the journey hasn't always been straightforward. There have been wonderful highs, difficult lows, plenty of lessons and moments that have challenged us to learn more, do better and continually evolve.
Those experiences have helped shape the breeder I am today and the direction of JDs Mini Foxies. I am passionate about making thoughtful breeding decisions, continually expanding my knowledge and raising puppies with an enormous amount of time, care and intention.
We are proudly a small, family-based breeder, and I want to keep it that way. Our dogs are part of our lives and our puppies are raised right alongside us, experiencing the everyday sights, sounds, animals and adventures that come with growing up in our little corner of country WA.
For me, this has never been about simply breeding puppies. It is about protecting and celebrating a little Aussie breed we absolutely adore, continually striving to improve what we do, and giving each JD’s puppy the very best beginning before they become part of another family’s story.
And having Octavia grow up alongside it all makes the journey that little bit more special.
Mini Foxies in Western Australia….
Building our lines with purpose
Every dog that becomes part of JDs Mini Foxies is chosen with careful consideration for what they can contribute to the future of our breeding program.
Temperament, type, structure, genetic diversity, health, personality and colouring all form part of that decision. We don't select our breeding dogs based on one characteristic alone — we look at the complete dog and how they complement our existing lines. DNA testing is another important tool within our breeding program, helping us make informed pairing decisions and better understand the genetics behind the dogs we are breeding.
Our goal is not simply to produce more Mini Foxies in WA. It is to thoughtfully develop strong, healthy and diverse lines while retaining everything that makes the Mini Foxie such a special Australian breed. We know developing a breeding program takes time. There is always more to learn, improvements to make and new generations to look forward to — and that's exactly what makes this journey so exciting.
A breed made for the WA lifestyle
From busy family homes and suburban backyards to farms, horses, beaches and weekends exploring our beautiful state, Mini Foxies have an incredible ability to adapt to the wonderfully diverse lifestyles we live here in WA. We are so proud to be playing our small part in making this iconic Australian breed more accessible within our home state — while continuing to raise the standard of what families can expect when choosing a JD’s Mini Foxie.
Want to learn more about the breed or meet our dogs?
We love talking Mini Foxies! Get in touch with us to ask questions, learn more about our breeding program or arrange an opportunity to meet us and our dogs.
When I first began seriously researching the Mini Foxie, there were no registered breeders here in Western Australia.
For anyone wanting to find a puppy from an established, reputable breeder, learn more about the breed, meet the dogs and make an informed decision in person, the options within WA were incredibly limited.
Finding the dogs that would eventually become the foundation of JDs Mini Foxies meant looking interstate and investing countless hours into research. There were FaceTime calls, endless photos and videos, pedigrees and DNA results to study, questions to ask and many conversations with experienced breeders who generously shared their knowledge with us.
We will always be incredibly grateful to those breeders who gave us their time, trusted us with their dogs and helped us take those first important steps.
Bringing the Mini Foxie closer to WA families
Having experienced the process ourselves, we understood just how daunting choosing a puppy from interstate could feel.
We spoke with so many families who loved the Mini Foxie but found themselves facing the same barriers — choosing a puppy they couldn't meet, not being able to meet its parents or breeder in person, organising flights and transport, and taking an enormous leap of faith from the other side of the country.
For some, it simply became too difficult and they chose a more readily available breed instead. We wanted to help change that.
Today, we are incredibly proud to be developing our Mini Foxie lines right here in Western Australia and giving more WA families the opportunity to discover this wonderful little Aussie breed.
